Sweet Pea

2005 - 2020

Sweet Pea, CH Bear Hug Bring It On JH NA NAJ,  was out of the first litter between Rugby and Maggie.  From the first, we knew that she would be something.  Maggie had a hard time delivering the last 4 puppies and we had to go to the emergency vet.  The first live one born there was Sweet Pea.  Marsha’ and the vet popped her sack, let Maggie clean her up and was immediately thrust under Marsha’s sweat shirt to keep warm.  Because she was so little the vet kept calling her Sweet Pea.  And that is how she got her name.
Even though Sweet Pea was the runt of the litter, she was still the alpha puppy.  She was always in the middle of everything, and still is today.  She got many of the good traits of both of her parents.  The most notable of these is her personality, which is just like Rugby’s.  They loved to play together.  They were great friends.  What one would not think up the other would.
And also like her father, Sweet Pea has surprised us with her success.  She easily finished her Confirmation Championship at the age of 8 months.  And on her first weekend almost beat the number one dog in the breed.  She finished easily with 5 three point majors.  We even tried to sabotage her, by putting our daughter on her to handle at one show, and she still won.  Sweet Pea then went on to win the first Award of Merit at the specialty in Arkansas at the age of 9 months.
Her hunting style reminds me of her mother Maggie, but she has the control of her dad Rugby.  Sweet Pea received a Prize II with a score of 99 on her Natural Ability Test with NAVHDA.
Recently has completed her Novice Agility Title, NA and her NAJ.
Sweet Pea recently received a Natural Ability Breeder’s Award for her first litter.  You can see the award on the next page.
Sweet Pea’s hips were checked by OFA and given a rating of Good.
Sweet Pea is 21.5 inches tall and weighs 55 pounds. Not an ounce of fat on her.  As we say in the South, she is a big boned girl.  She has an excellent harsh coat, super movement and a great top line.
Sweet Pea has had 10 puppies with 4 Champions.
Sweet Pea and her mother, Maggie, are both Chestnut in color.  The rest of our dogs are Brown and Grey.
